South Bristol Private Residence

MLA collaborated with the project architect, Kohlstadt and Frederickson, throughout various phases of the project. Work at this private residence included the preparation of conceptual plans through detailed construction drawings and planting plans for each phase of work. Located on a high cliff 100ft. above Canandaigua Lake, this site features breathtaking views of the lake and the hills beyond. The steeply sloped site necessitated terracing of various levels above and to the sides of the main building. The owner’s requirement of the use of natural materials wherever possible guided the use of large limestone boulders for walls surrounding the house, driveway, and parking area and ox-blood bluestone for patio surfaces. Other important components of the project include concrete and timber stairways, rear patio, and walkways, site lighting, and plantings of native and ornamental shrubs, perennials, and grasses.
